How to shop for a prepaid long distance calling card
You have decided that for one reason or another that you need a prepaid phonecard. What is next?
First you need to think of just how you intend to use the card. Are you traveling within the US or abroad or using the card at home?If you are outside of the US then you need a card that is usable from the country that you will be calling from. Not all cards are good throughout the entire world. Some areas can not be serviced at all.
If all calls are going to be placed from within the US will they be in different states or just one?
Some states have cards with better rates than others. Prepaid callingcards for these states will save you even more money.
Do you intent to use the card for emergencies only?
A lot of cards have what is called a maintenance fee. This fee is charged according to a specific time period specified by each card (weekly, biweekly, monthly, etc.) and uses up your minutes.
Not all cards have this fee so they will be a better choice to use. You also need to pay attention if there is an expiration date. Some callingcards will expire after time even though they do not have a maintenance fee.
